LEED Buildings of Note in Lakeland, Florida

Planned LEED Platinum Certification (Under Renovations – Not Yet Certified) – Lakeland, FL


The former Holland & Knight law office located along Lake Wire with a new address of 450 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Lakeland, Florida was purchased by The Board of Trustees of the Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Inc. on April 6, 2009 for $3,400,000. The building was originally constructed in 1967 and at the time of purchase the building had been completely gutted. The new owners hired MarcoBay Construction and the building is now currently undergoing renovations and has been planned to qualify for LEED Platinum Certification.

LEED Gold Certification – Lakeland, Florida

Magnify Credit Union (FKA Community First Credit Union) was constructed in 2008/2009 at the corner of County Road 540A and Scott Lake Road/Carter Road in Lakeland (South Lakeland). This site was originally improved with a prefabricated Bruster’s Ice Cream and the new credit union building was constructed to incorporate the existing ice cream operation. In addition to LEED Gold Certification status the building has been titled as Florida’s first “Net Zero Energy” commercial building. The roof of the building consists of an array of photovoltaic panels for electricity production and the building also consists of a specialized gray water system, low consumption fixtures, high efficiency air handlers, etc.

LEED Certification – Lakeland, Florida

Earthlinked Technologies office and manufacturing facility was constructed in 2008 and was Lakeland’s and Polksfirst LEED Certified building. The property is located within the Parkway Corporate Center just south of the Polk Parkway in the western portion of Lakeland. The address is 4151 South Pipkin Road, Lakeland, FL 33811. The building is approximately 30,000 SF. Earthlink Systems were included in the construction, which consists of geothermal heat pumps. Additionally the building utilized natural lighting, water efficient landscaping, water reclamation and conservation, various recycled materials, etc.
